Sheriff Saves Horses.

About 300 horses and burros dotted a large swath of Morrill County land last April.

More than 200 of the animals were emaciated or ailing; at least 74 were dead.

Today most of those surviving animals are still alive, and a national animal rights group is honoring Morrill County Sheriff John Edens for his part in their rescue.

“I'm just doing my job,” said Eden. “I don't really think I deserve anything special for it.”

Fashion to Promote Animal Rights?

When animal rights are concerned, fashion and fur usually do not mix. This was not the case, when about 50 locals gathered at the Obion County Fairgrounds for a unique form of philanthropy-a fashion show.


The event, titled Rescues and Runways, was hosted by the national clothing retailer Maurice's. As part of a national campaign to benefit the ASPCA, each Maurice's outlet teamed up with a local shelter and held a fashion show featuring their fall collection as well as some furry friends in need.

Stop Testing on Animals!

It’s been 50 years since the “3 Rs”—refinement, reduction, and replacement of animals in science—were proposed. But scientists continue to conduct cruel and irrelevant experiments, killing millions of animals. At the Seventh World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences, held later this month in Rome, PCRM scientists will propose humane, human-relevant alternatives. Later this year, Congress will consider a sweeping revision to the Toxic Substances Control Act, the law that regulates industrial chemicals. This will be the first major revision in the law's 33-year history. PCRM scientists are working to make sure the revision benefits both people and animals, and PCRM members can aid the reform effort.
